Living Arts Tea Tent
community support weekend

Community Support Weekend – APRIL 20TH & 21ST ++ APRIL 27th
Did you hear the exciting news? The Living Arts Tea Tent is being blessed with a permanent location during the Grassroots Festival at Shakori Hills, thanks to the generosity and support of the Grassroots, SHCAC and LAC community!
As we prepare for the Spring 2024 Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival of Music and Dance. We want the Living Arts Tea Tent to continue to be community held, so that it can continue to grow as a co-created space of reciprocity, repose, and rest during the Grassroots festivals.
There will be various opportunities to dance, build, celebrate, donate and learn about the Living Arts Tea Tent throughout the weekend!
This events will serve as a fundraiser and donation drive for the Living Arts Tea Tent. A portion of the entry fee will go towards covering the material costs of the Tea Tent.
Donations of teas and teapots will be accepted during this evening. Some other items we are potentially accepting: Floor cushions and calm decor (curtains, rugs). Please check in with a facilitator about these bigger donations either beforehand or when you arrive.

The LAC Tea Tent invites you to BYOM (bring your own mug) to the Spring 2024 Tea Tent!
In an effort to produce as minimal waste as possible, the LAC community is invited to bring their own mug to the Grassroots Festival this Spring (May 3-6) to store in the tea tent for personal use.
All mugs should be labeled (and we can help with that). Mugs will be stored in the cabinet accessible in the main tea area. Please help us keep the Tea Tent tidy by putting your empty mug away before you leave the tent.
Find Tea Tent Captain Kelso before or during the festival to get your mug situated and get you entered in our raffle for a very special sweet surprise for bringing your own mug!

Living Arts Dancewaves – Sundays @ LAC

Sundays
11:33 AM – 1:11 PM
@ Living Arts Collective
410 West Geer Street
Inspired by Ecstatic Dance through the lens of Ousia (oo-see-ah), the Living Arts Dancewave is an immersive dance experience with curated music woven in a wave format. Living Arts Dancewaves are inclusive and intergenerational spaces for people to move freely and express themselves creatively.
The Living Arts Collective facilitates experiences that are welcoming of all ages, physical bodies, cultural backgrounds, identities and dance abilities. We stand in authentic, lasting solidarity with our BIPOC & LGBTQ+ friends and family. Dancewaves start slowly, build to a peak and then return to stillness, during which time you will get to experience the euphoria of music, rhythm and connection. We co-create an environment intentionally free from verbal conversation and cell phones to support a more fully embodied experience.
The Dancewave lasts for 90 minutes, during which we encourage you to take care of your well-being, to move at the pace and in ways that feel best to you, and to honor others by always seeking consent in your interactions.
Schedule:
11:11 AM Arrival & Settle 6pm
11:33 AM Opening Circle
1:11 PM Closing Harvest Circle followed by Restoration of the Space

Contact Improvisation

Our May/June Contact Improvisation season has something for everyone!
Click this link to learn more about these offerings:
7 Flavors of Jam Series~ CI Jams with Live Improvised Music and Guided Warm-ups!~
Each week there will be warm-ups provided by different experienced teachers, live improvised music with different musicians, and plenty of time for open jamming and play. Sign up for the entire series to support the event and reduce the per-jam cost (we prefer this!) or drop-in when you can.
7-Week Spirit and Technique of Contact Improvisation Series on Tuesdays (Open Level) and Wednesdays (Intermediate+)~
Starting in mid-May, Em Liptow and Len Foyle will be co-teaching an open-level/beginner-friendly CI series on Tuesday nights and Coda Badamo-Connors and Toni Craige will be co-teaching a series for more experienced dancers on Wednesday nights. Both series are 7 weeks long, and students must sign up for the entire series~ they will be nourishing learning experiences and spaces to build community connection.
Weekend Events~
We will be hosting our signature 2.5 hour “Contact Improvisation Fundamentals” workshop on Sunday, 4/28 from 3:30-6pm. Come try CI for the first time or re-engage with the basics from a new perspective. This is an ideal way to try out Len and Em’s teaching before committing to the 7-week Tuesday night series.
Last Contact Improvisation Jam of April on 4/22

From Spencer, “I wrote a lot of songs in the past three years which are with a few older unrecorded songs, clamoring to be heard. Your presence would mean a lot. Expect professional sound, lighting, and a special guest or two. This is my first booked solo performance in over six years.”
