Saturday January 20th & January 27th!
8 PM – 10 PM
@ Living Arts Collective
410 West Geer Street

We just couldn’t wait for another Saturday night dance! Join us the next 2 Saturdays as our epic nighttime dancewave returns

Schedule:
7:40 PM Arrival
8:00 PM Opening Circle and Dancewave!
9:30 PM Closing Circle

Inspired by Ecstatic Dance through the lens of Ousia (oo-see-ah), the Living Arts Dancewave is an immersive dance experience with curated music woven in a wave format. Living Arts Dancewaves are inclusive and intergenerational spaces for people to move freely and express themselves creatively.

The Living Arts Collective facilitates experiences that are welcoming of all ages, physical bodies, cultural backgrounds, identities and dance abilities. We stand in authentic, lasting solidarity with our BIPOC & LGBTQ+ friends and family. Dancewaves start slowly, build to a peak and then return to stillness, during which time you will get to experience the euphoria of music, rhythm and connection. We co-create an environment intentionally free from verbal conversation and cell phones to support a more fully embodied experience.

The Dancewace lasts for 90 minutes, during which we encourage you to take care of your well-being, to move at the pace and in ways that feel best to you, and to honor others by always seeking consent in your interactions.

We encourage you to take care of your wellbeing, to move at the pace and in ways that feel best to you, and to honor others by always seeking consent in your interactions with them.

This 2.5-hour workshop provides an immersive dive into the fundamental skills, concepts, and techniques of Contact Improvisation practice, providing the groundwork to safely continue learning the form in the context of jamming and ongoing classes. You’ll get some basic physical and emotional safety and techniques under your belt, and get a taste of the joy of the practice! Great for folks new to CI or anyone who wants to gently revisit the foundations of the form.

Somatic Dimensions: Serious Play…an embodiment laboratory dedicated to focussed learning through joy and collaboration

This 3.5 hour workshop will use improvisational exploration and specific structures designed to invite dancing alone and together through Serious Play – a process in which we are committed to an attitude of deep research and learning, while also holding space for curiosity and joy. Ideal for anyone open to periods of rigorous open-ended exploration and comfortable working with touch. For CI beginners, the morning class will be enough of an orientation to dive in.

There are discounts available for registering for one class early (15%CIJAN27EARLY), and for both classes early (30%CIJAN27BE). Earlybird discounts expire at midnight on January 13th. You can also get 15% off for registering for both classes later in the process (15%CIJAN27BOTH). Use codes when you check out via our online system, Acuity.

Exploring the Innate Wisdom of the Moving Body and the Three Brains: A Somatic Dimensions Embodiment Laboratory

10:00 AM – 12:30 PM Part 1
12:30 PM – 2:00 PM Lunch
2:00 PM – 5:00 PM Part 2

A spacious time for folks who would like to set aside a day for embodied presence. Using a series of gentle exercises and improvisational structures that focus on anatomical and physiological harmony, we will explore The Three Brains: Gut, Heart, and Head – as developed by the Center for Body Movement, an ISMETA approved Somatic Movement Education program with certifications and activities in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and the United States.

The facilitator, Ray Eliot Schwartz, draws on over 40 years of the influences of Body Mind Centering®, Authentic Movement, the Feldenkrais Method®, Modern Dance Studies, Contact Improvisation, Traditional Thai Massage, and Zero Balancing™. These modalities form the foundations of a creative approach to embodiment and movement education. Their principles guide us on a journey towards understanding the powerful wisdom contained within the substance of the human body as well as how this substance is expressed through patterns of movement.

While the workshop is open to anyone, people who have comfort with emotional safety, boundaries, and consent in touch-based dancing and movement practices are optimal participants. As well it would be good if you felt like you knew a bit about sharing weight safely, and the ability to move up and down off the floor. A capacity for self-generated experience, active listening, a spirit of playfulness and adaptability, and a desire for collaboration and communication are highly helpful.
