LAC is co-hosting an event with The Carolina Theatre and Africa Unplugged titled Embrace Rhythm and Dance: A Community Gathering celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. Community partners include Mambo Dinamico, El Centro Hispano, Africa Unplugged, Durham Arthur Murray. FREE and all are welcome. (Sunday, Sep 15 · 5–7 PM). *Please note: this event is at LAC downtown location (410 west Geer St. Durham, NC) Please register HERE.
We’re hosting a Song Circle + Grief Ritual with Alexandra “ahlay” Blakely and Laurence Cole from the West Coast. The Grief Ritual is FULL, and there are a FEW SPOTS LEFT in the Song Circle this Thursday Sep 12. Please register by tonight to secure your spot!

Our Fall classes are almost full! The Retreat at Dreaming Stone is full and the Tuesday Open-Level Series filled last week~ if you are interested in those, let us know and we can put you on a waitlist in case a spot opens up.
The one class with spaces remaining is our Intermediate CI series with Toni Craige and Coda Badamo-Connors (starting Wednesday, 9/18). If $$ is the only thing in the way of participating, please reach out~ we have enough scholarship funds for several partial scholarships (thank you to all who have donated to the fund!), and can also set up an installment payment plan if that helps. Embrace Rhythm and Dance: A Community Gathering Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

Presented by Carolina Theatre of Durham and Living Arts Collective
In Collaboration with: Africa Unplugged, El Centro Hispanico, Mambo Dinamico Dance Co. and Arthur Murray Durham
Join us on Sunday, September 15th from 5 – 7 pm for a celebration of Latin dance and rhythms. Experience dance styles from various Latin countries celebrating history, culture, and unity through music and dance. Interactive demonstrations led by Baba Bradley Simmons, Baba Vladimir Espinosa, Zuheil Alvarez Cortes, Betto Herrera, Takiri Folclore Latino, Atiba Rorie and Beverly Botsford. This gathering promises a few surprise guests as well a nod to the Argentinian Malambo.
This FREE workshop is open to everyone, whether you’re a seasoned dancer or just love to move.

This is a participatory singing adventure and everyone is invited–absolutely no experience required. Laurence and ahlay are song carriers and grief tenders. They blend song, body percussion, dance, stillness, breath and silence with the deepest intention to support others in remembering their inherent birthright to singing and rhythm. Their songs are invitations to move stagnated emotions through our bodies.

This event is FULL! In this intimate, two-day ritual, we will use singing, poetry, movement, sacred listening, sharing, and witnessing and being witnessed to help each other process grief. This is a space to move through grief in whatever shape or form it comes in– wailing, numbness, shame, rage, trembling, stillness, or something else.

Inspired by Ecstatic Dance through the lens of Ousia (oo-see-ah), the Living Arts Dancewave is an immersive dance experience with curated music woven in a wave format. Living Arts Dancewaves are inclusive and intergenerational spaces for people to move freely and express themselves creatively.
The Living Arts Collective facilitates experiences that are welcoming of all ages, physical bodies, cultural backgrounds, identities and dance abilities. We stand in authentic, lasting solidarity with our BIPOC & LGBTQ+ friends and family. Dancewaves start slowly, build to a peak and then return to stillness, during which time you will get to experience the euphoria of music, rhythm and connection. We co-create an environment intentionally free from verbal conversation and cell phones to support a more fully embodied experience.
